Author Visits
Let's read together!
I'm available for book readings and presentations at your school or community event. An author visit is a great opportunity to connect readers with the person behind the book and creative writing process. I truly enjoy sharing my story with others and inspiring future writers young and old.
See below for the activities I offer during an author visit. Presentations can also be adjusted according to age group. Both in-person and virtual visits are available.

I look forward to hearing from you!

What Educators Are Saying
"It was a joy to have Cindy meet with our sixth grade mystery writing class. In fact, one of our students was so inspired by Cindy's presentation that they immediately went into their writing session with their mentor full of ideas! Cindy definitely exceeded our expectations."
Marabet Morales, Program & Community Manager
Chapter 510
"Cindy Tong presented to our Youth Mentors and Mentees about her book and journey as an author. She was a big hit among everyone and we all agree having her as a guest author at the mid-way point of programming was super valuable to our students' experience. Sharing stories that feature diverse voices, characters and stories remains a high priority for our program and I am so glad we got a chance to partner with Cindy. We hope to have her back for more author visits in the future!"
Artavia Berry, Director
Community Reading Buddies
"We had a wonderful author visit with Cindy Tong! I was so impressed by how simply she was able to communicate the different elements of a mystery to our 1st graders, and guiding them through how to write one. I’m super excited about having my students develop the mystery that was created during the presentation."
Katrina Ho, 1st Grade Teacher
Plymouth Elementary School
"Cindy Tong visited our school and spoke to three second grade classes about her book. During the author visit, Cindy explained the inspiration behind her book and her writing process. Our students were very inspired by Cindy's story and learned a lot! She is an enthusiastic speaker who clearly enjoys working with students. It was a great experience - we loved meeting a real author!"
Wendy Dere, Librarian
Chinese Immersion School at DeAvila
"Cindy came to Cameron House to read her book, tell her personal story as an Asian American author, and conduct a mystery writing workshop with our students. Our students (in grades 1–5) really got into the mystery and started shouting out the clues and guessing who the culprit was before the story was even done! The writer's workshop further engaged our students in the components that go into writing a mystery – they even started using the term red herring in regular conversations with us! Cindy's book and her personal journey as an author has inspired us to realize that we all have the ability to use our imaginations to create intriguing stories with characters that look just like us!"

"Cindy Tong came to the Boys and Girls Club and shared her latest book, The Mystery of the Missing Dump Truck with our K-2nd graders. Throughout the presentation, Cindy kept the students engaged by asking a lot of questions and doing a fun mystery writing exercise with them. They learned about the writing process and the elements in a mystery book. Our center's goal is to promote literacy and make reading fun, and Cindy completely delivered on that. Our students were on the edge of their seats during the book reading and were so excited to take a copy of the book home. After the author visit, Cindy even sent us additional mystery writing materials for the students. We would love to work with Cindy again in the future!"
Kevin Wilson, Program Manager
Boys and Girls Club of San Francisco
"Cindy did a great job on the reading! A lot of folks were intrigued by the process and behind-the-scenes insight. Fun and adventurous story, too. Cindy was very thoughtful when making revisions and it shows in the final product!"
